Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme
The Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme (MRCS) provides rehabilitation, treatment and compensation for current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members who suffer mental or physical injury or contract a disease as a result of service on or after 1 July 2004. It also provides compensation to their eligible dependants if their death is related to service on or after 1 July 2004, if they were entitled to maximum permanent impairment compensation or, had been eligible for a Special Rate Disability Pension. The MRCS focuses on providing rehabilitation services to help injured or sick personnel make as full a recovery as possible and, if possible, return to their normal duties. The MRCS also increases the amount of compensation available in the event of severe service-related injury, disease or death.
